Celebrating International Women's Day

March 8 marks International Women's Day, an annual, global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo released a statement on the occasion, expressing gratitute to women around the globe who have made contributions to benefit society and reaffirmed the United States' support for women who are working to enact change in their communities around the world. 

U.S. government leaders and agencies in Washington, DC as well as U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad joined in recognizing International Women's Day by sharing messages, highlighting admirable women, historic facts, and women's empowerment programs around the world. Here are some highlights:
