U.S.-Afghanistan Relationship

On July 9, Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo traveled to Afghanistan to meet with President Ashraf Ghani and Afghan officials. While in Kabul, Secretary Pompeo said, "Our South Asia strategy has sent a clear message to the Afghan peoples and its security services that we will support them as they continue to fight to defend their country… The strategy has sent a clear message, too, to the Taliban – they cannot wait us out."

During his visit, Secretary Pompeo also met with staff from the U.S. Embassy in Kabul and visited with American troops from Resolute Support Mission at Bagram Air Field.  Here are some highlights from the Secretary's travel to Afghanistan:
