If you are a soccer fan, you will not want to miss the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola event at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. on Monday, April 14, 2014.  During its 267-day duration, the World Cup™ Trophy Tour will visit nearly 90 countries, including the United States, and will give the public an opportunity to see what is arguably the world's most coveted symbol of soccer.

You can join the Trophy Tour's Washington, D.C. stop by applying to attend one of our State Department Meetups.  These Meetups provide opportunities for those who engage with the State Department on social media to join events in-person.  To attend this Meetup, please go to and submit your application by Wednesday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m. EDT.  If you are selected to participate, you will be notified no later than Friday, April 11.

Meetup participants will have the opportunity to attend the Trophy Tour event at the Department of State and to hear from Secretary of State John Kerry, U.S. Sports Envoys Cobi Jones and Julie Foudy, and representatives of the Brazilian Embassy, FIFA, and Coca-Cola. Participants will also learn about the State Department's sports diplomacy efforts, which seek to use sports as a way to transcend differences and bring people together. The State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has implemented sports exchange programs in more than 100 countries through four distinct initiatives: Sports Visitors, Sports Envoys, Sports Grants, and the Empowering Women and Girls through Sports Program.

If you cannot come to the Department of State in Washington, D.C. to attend the Trophy Tour, we will be streaming the event live on and YouTube. You can also follow our coverage of the event on TwitterFacebookGoogle+Tumblr, and Instagram.  We hope you can join us!
