Photo of the Week: The Spirit of Thanksgiving

Ambassador Kenney and Celebrity Chef Tang Serve Thanksgiving

This week's "Photo of the Week" comes to us from the U.S. Embassy in Thailand, and shows U.S. Ambassador Kristie Kenney serving a Thanksgiving feast to children at the Duang Pratheep Foundation in Bangkok.

This type of outreach exemplifies the spirit that President Barack Obama described during his Thanksgiving Day Proclamation, in which he said, "As we reflect on our proud heritage, let us also give thanks to those who honor it by giving back. This Thanksgiving, thousands of our men and women in uniform will sit down for a meal far from their loved ones and the comforts of home. We honor their service and sacrifice. We also show our appreciation to Americans who are serving in their communities, ensuring their neighbors have a hot meal and a place to stay. Their actions reflect our age-old belief that we are our brothers' and sisters' keepers, and they affirm once more that we are a people who draw our deepest strength not from might or wealth, but from our bonds to each other."

President Obama continued, "On Thanksgiving Day, individuals from all walks of life come together to celebrate this most American tradition, grateful for the blessings of family, community, and country. Let us spend this day by lifting up those we love, mindful of the grace bestowed upon us by God and by all who have made our lives richer with their presence."

@ Hanna Johnson,

As a fellow construction worker, I know folks don't always appreciate the job we do or the risks we take to get the job done right; and I thought I'd send a note of solidarity to these guys after reading the following news item;

Washington (CNN) -- A flash fire in the ductwork of the State Department injured four people Saturday, including three who were sent to a hospital, fire officials said.

One person was in a "life-threatening condition" and the other two people were in serious but non-life threatening condition at Washington Hospital Center, authorities said.

The fourth person fell from a ladder and hurt his knee, authorities said.

The fire started shortly after 11 a.m., as construction crews were working on the premises, said Lon Walls, a spokesman for Washington's fire department.

Construction workers extinguished the flames before fire trucks arrived, Walls said.

There were few federal employees in the government building because of the holiday weekend, Walls told CNN.

So I hope you'll pass on my best wishes to them for their speedy recovery, thanks.
