Ambassador Ranneberger Delivers Remarks for U.S. Independence Day Celebration in Nairobi

On July 2, the American Embassy Nairobi observed Independence Day in grand style. Ambassador Michael Ranneberger welcomed nearly 2,000 key embassy contacts to his home. Former Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi was among the guests. Ambassador Ranneberger shared the podium with Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy Judith McHale and Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly Kenneth Marende. In his remarks, the Ambassador reiterated the importance of the upcoming constitutional referendum to stability and economic development. Click here to watch an excerpt of his remarks. In her remarks, Under Secretary McHale spoke about the long relationship between the United States and Kenya, and she reinforced the importance of the referendum as a key element in moving forward in the 21st century.
