Cupcakes Arranged in Shape of U.S. Flag at Embassy Ottawa

In case you were out watching the fireworks…or eating cupcakes with your barbecue…or just enjoying a summer's day with loved ones, here's the July Fourth coverage you missed:

If you celebrated the Fourth in Afghanistan, you might have been at a formal reception with Ambassador Eikenberry and General Petraeus, and been serenaded by the 101st Airborne Division's “Dixieland Band.” If the Fourth found you in New Delhi, you might have been rocking out to the alternative country sounds of “Nashville Freight,” and the pop-rock-reggae of “Tough on Tobacco.” You could have joined bicyclists enjoying an impromptu parade to honor the day in Belgium. In Israel? You were probably watching the webcast fireworks from the cool comfort of your own computer room.

No matter where you were, or how you planned your festivities, all of us here at the Department of State join you in celebrating the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and the cause of advancing universal human rights around the world.
