Celebrating Flag Day Around the World

June 14th is Flag Day in the United States, the yearly commemoration of the adoption of the American flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777.  Today, all over America, communities will celebrate with displays of fireworks, parades and summertime barbecues.  Overseas, our Embassies and Consulates will celebrate as they do every day: with the morning raising and evening lowering of the flag in front of our missions.

Here, in honor of Flag Day, we have collected 10 photos of American flags flying in front of our Embassies and Consulates around the world.  Some of these buildings are on the Secretary of State’s Register of Culturally Significant Properties, which is similar to the National Register of Historic Places, showcasing diplomatic architecture that reflects the United States’ overseas heritage.

Happy Flag Day!
