Judith Heumann, Special Advisor for International Disability Rights, will hold a conversation with Ann Cody, Director of Policy and Global Outreach for BlazeSports America, and Kirk Bauer, Executive Director of Disabled Sports USA, on "Promoting Disability Rights." The discussion will be moderated by Cheryl Benton, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, and will be available for on demand viewing soon on DipNote, the Department of State's official blog.
This program will focus on opportunities to elevate and address the human rights of persons with disabilities, and the tangible benefits that can result from this work. For example, the successful completion of Paralympics games in London clearly demonstrates how sports can be used as one tool to empower disabled people, and ensure that they are treated with self-respect and dignity. This program will discuss approaches to promoting enjoyment of the human rights by persons with disabilities, and the tools that we can all employ in this important work.
You are invited to participate by submitting questions, some of which will be selected for response during the taping. Submit your questions below on DipNote and join the ongoing discussion via Twitter using the hashtag #DisabilityRights. Please submit questions via DipNote, Facebook, or Twitter as soon as possible for consideration.
Through Conversations With America, leaders of national non-governmental organizations have the opportunity to discuss foreign policy and global issues with senior State Department officials.
