U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, Ambassador Princeton Lyman, spoke to NPR's Renee Montgne today about the situation in Abyei. Ambassador Lyman said that Sudan's recent actions in Abyei have jeopardized the country's normalization of relations with the United States, which would entail removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, support for debt relief, and access to international financial resources. Ambassador Lyman will be traveling to Khartoum this weekend. You can listen to the interview here.
