This week, the United States intensified its humanitarian response to the recent catastrophic flooding in Pakistan. The United States is making commitments of $25 million in assistance to flood-affected populations, bringing the total to date to more than $35 million.
American citizens have been contributing $10 donations from their cell phones, by texting the word "SWAT" to the number 50555. The Government of Pakistan has set up a similar phone-based contribution system for people to donate from within Pakistan. As we learned after the earthquake in Haiti, small donations can add up to make a large difference.
