President Obama's Statement on the Death of Polish President Kaczynski

In a terrible accident, President Lech Kaczynski of Poland was killed in a plane crash along with his wife, and a distinguished delegation of Polish civilian and military leaders. This morning, President Obama called Prime Minister Tusk of Poland to offer his deepest condolences for the tragic loss and express the full and strong support of the American people for Poland. Secretary Clinton released the following statement:

"I join President Obama in offering my deepest condolences to the people of Poland, to the Kaczynski family, and to the families of all those killed in this tragedy. Lost alongside President Kaczynski and his wife were Polish leaders from across the political spectrum, men and women who shaped and sped Poland's post-1989 democratic transformation and were leading Poland into its promising future. The tragedy of these lives cut short will be felt deeply across the world, but their legacy will live on in a free and flourishing Poland.

"The United States stands with the Polish people in this difficult hour. Like the country he led, President Kaczynski was one of America's most valued and trusted allies. He was well known in the United States as a champion for democracy against an oppressive regime, a man whose journey took him from the Gdansk Shipyards to the presidency of a free people. President Kaczynski was an unstinting advocate for freedom and human rights not just in Poland, but around the world. He will be long remembered and sorely missed.

"The Polish people have endured more than their share of sorrow, but they have always shown resilience and resolve in the face of adversity -- and I know they will pull together in solidarity to grieve this loss.

"My thoughts and prayers are with all the people of Poland today."Update: On April 11, 2010, Secretary Clinton signed the condolence book at the Embassy of Poland in Washington, DC. Read the Secretary's remarks here.

I just learned of Poland's loss of their President and his wife along with many others in a plane crash, and wanted to express my condolences to and solidarity with the people of Poland.

Not long ago someone said, "We are all Haitian." and today we are all Poles.

I express my deepest sympathy for the Poland President and his wife. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family. It just proves my point, aircraft safety needs an upgrade, I introduced the Emergency Escape Pods that would help passengers Escape the aircraft safely during an emergency and it falls on deaf ears. The NTSB and others know about my ideas, yet Airline Corporations refuse to hear about adding new safety equipment that would save lives. This is a tradegy but until improvements happen, accidents will always happen. If anyone is interested in the Emergency Escape Pod, write the State Department be glad to share my ideas, especially if it means saving a life!!!

The tragic death of Polish President, Lech Kaczynski, dealt a severe blow to the people of Poland. On board the flight were other members of the Polish, including some of the countries top civilian and military officials. The plane crashed near the Katyn Forest which during World War II was the sight of a horrific massacre of Poles by the Soviet Union. It is speculated that the crash occurred due to pilot error but the exact reasoning for the crash is still unknown. There are a number of conspiracy theories circulating. My first discrepancy is that in no circumstance should so many important governmental officials be traveling on the same flight. My second discrepancy is that the Polish government had not upgraded their aircraft in many years. The aircraft involved in the crash was a Tupolev-154 designed in the 1960’s and has been involved in many accidents.

In the coming days, it will be very important that all Polish citizens rally together and move forward. The leader of the lower house of Poland’s Parliament is now the acting president. With his leadership, the country will have to continue moving forward. The next step will be to hold presidential elections in the near future. My sincere condolences go out to the families of those involved in the crash and the rest of the Polish community. This is a tragedy that will be remembered for years to come.

Strange accident, obviously from an experienced pilot! Are Russians attempting to "invade" Poland again? After Georgia? What's next?

I think that a complete radio transcript com with the local airport tower would give us some info.

EMERGENCY ESCAPE PODS FOR VEHICLES AND COMMERCIAL JET LINERS

1. Everyone in the world who has ever flown in a plane, jetliner, or passenger aircraft always takes on risks.

2. My idea was pretty simple. You have a shell around the human body to protect skin, bones and body of the passenger. This protection includes fire, heat, and debris from the aircraft. Stunt drivers use extra safety equipment when there about to make a stunt. It has been proven with the right equipment you can survive many times over.

3. Commercial Jetliners DO NOT offer a parachute when flying. Our jetfighters have an ejection seat to help our pilots eject safely.

4. The POD concept means you have everything you need inside the POD. Portable oxygen, life preserver, made of durable material that offers passengers a means to evacuate safely from the vehicle during emergencies. An emrgency kit that includes all the means to survive during the evacuation.

5. As an example: A plane flying over the North Atlantic at 35,000 feet, travelling speeds of 550 MPH, if the plane is having engine problems, or has electrical, or just runs into bad weather like a lightning storm, if it starts to crash, what is onboard to help the passengers? The internal oxygen breathing masks, a life preserver, and we all know the "Black Box" will survive. A nice emergency guide printed and laminated for passengers to know the exits of the plane, and one last note, remember to put your heads between your knees, when or if the plane crashes.

6. Its most dangerous when a plane takes off and lands. I think we all have said our prayers during these times. How about when the plane starts experiencing turbulance? Add another thousand prayers.

7. When you look at the aircraft, study how it was designed, it includes two or more emergency doors or hatches. My idea would mean an upgrade that would allow every row of the aircraft to include emergency doors, that would blow out and allow the Emergency Escape Pods to evacuate with the passengers safely at any altitude. Case in point, the plane starts descending during the crash, the Pilot knows it will crash. He/She gets on the radio and declares the onboard emergency. Annoucement over the speaker from the Pilot to passengers, "Everyone on the plane get into your Emergency PODs" Once all crew and passengers have done this step safely, the pilot flips a switch or pulls a chord, that allows the emergency doors/hatches to be blown out. All doors/hatches gone, then each row inside the cabin, all the Escape Pods depart the aircraft including the Pilot, Co-Pilot, Crew and all passengers. At whatever altitudes, using the same concept the Military uses, a static line for each POD, the parachute on the POD deploys, allowing the POD to descend and float away from the aircraft and allow the passenger a means to land safely. The POD also has a means to float in case landing in the ocean. The concern of being able to see these Pods at night, a special coat of paint on the POD that allows it to glow in the dark would help rescuers find the passengers.

8. The idea to add more weight to the aircraft with more equipment. I agree it would add more weight, decrease the amount of passengers, but isn't it more wise to have 100 passengers arrive safe, or have 198 passengers die from the plane crash? Airliners refuse to hear how they would have to add more safety features for the passengers, yet it's the passengers that keep them in business. It makes more sense to keep them alive for business. Companies like Pam Am and TWA and others went out business because of terrorism and plane crashes.

9. I watch on the news how the Commercial Jetliners are increasing prices of luggage, it appears to me they are more concerned about the pricing of how much weight they can charge, but when it comes to safety, they still use the same methods.

10. The Pilots, Co-Pilots, crew along with all passengers could be safe inside Emergency Escape Pods during take-off, during landings, and ofcourse during any times the plane is having problems.

In the end, I would rather be the Black Box in a plane crash, it survives the crash. The Emergency Escape Pods would survive given the chance to help people during emergencies. This idea can be used for aircraft, trains, buses, trucks, cars, helicopters, even ships or boats. Even Russian Scientist have come up with an Escape Pod for their rockets during take-off.

THINK ABOUT IT...NEXT TIME YOUR ON A PLANE DURING TURBULANCE OR VEHICLE IS ABOUT TO GO OVER A BRIDGE THAT COLLAPSED... A TRAIN THAT CRASHES, WHAT PROTECTION IS THERE FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY...?

ANSWER: FUTURE EMERGENCY ESCAPE PODS
