U.S. Vice President Joe Biden Attends 2010 Winter Olympics

About the Author: William Millman is a retired Foreign Service Officer providing public affairs assistance for the Olympic Games.

Vice President Biden arrived today in Vancouver under blustery grey skies, with the excitement and electricity of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games reflected in proud smiles and widespread optimism throughout the city.

The Vice President and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, were greeted as they stepped off Air Force Two by Ambassador David Jacobson, his wife Julie, and CG Phil Chicola. Pool reporters from NBC and AP covered the arrival.

As their lengthy motorcade wound its way into the city, Canada jackets, sweatshirts, hats and gloves were the fashion of the day on the streets and sidewalks, with some apartment buildings displaying nearly as many maple leaf flags as window.

After a brief stop at his hotel to freshen up, the Vice President is headed to a meeting with the U.S. Olympic team, and then to the opening ceremonies tonight.

Its been great to see such a great person over there. But I think we guys need to do something different. UN officials estimated some 1 million people had been left homeless in Myanmar. Some aid workers said heavily flooded areas were accessible only by boat, with helicopters unable to find dry spots for landing relief supplies. The whole place is under salt water and there is nothing to drink. President Bush said the U.S. was ready to deliver aid. I wana tell you guy's that please try to do something helpful for it. I have donated U.S. $ 30 (small for sure ) to the Red Cross collected through sales of digital products through my http://www.download-tvshows.com/ website. It's really heart rendering to see loss of thousands of innocent lives to this natural disaster.

Great to see VP Biden come to Vancouver, British Columbia - and to support the US Olympics team!

No doubt that any such event is a complex mix of various political issues, but amidst the chaos and the challenges of international events, its nice to see something where we can enjoy at least a modest degree of camaraderie.

Do come back to Vancouver British Columbia after the Games - and come over to our provincial capital, Victoria (confusingly, its on Vancouver Island).
