U.S. Hosts G8 Summit

On May 18-19, 2012, the leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the EU joined President Barack Obama at Camp David for the annual G8 Summit. The leaders met to address major global economic, political, and security challenges, including energy and climate change, food security and nutrition, Afghanistan's economic transition and transitions taking place across the Middle East and North Africa.

London 2012 Olympics Countdown Calls for Friendly Competition

Today marks 75 days until the start of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London. As London prepares to welcome the world for the Olympics, the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. organized a medley of sports activities, or "Embassy Olympics," in recognition last month of the "100 Days To Go" mark.

On April 18, international colleagues from the diplomatic community joined to compete in the "Embassy Olympics." SportsUnited representatives from the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs along with their colleagues in the Bureau of International Information Programs and Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs were key "players" in the event.

Today, the Republic of Korea hosted more than 50 world leaders for the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul. During the opening plenary session, President Barack Obama said:

White House Tweetup: Visit of United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron

I kicked off this morning on the South Lawn of the White House awaiting President Obama's welcome to UK Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife, Samantha. As part of the arrival ceremony, the White House hosted a Tweetup, a gathering of people who regularly connect via Twitter, to share our messages with the world. I manage the Consular Affairs Twitter account, @TravelGov, where I focus on travel and staying connected with U.S. citizens as they go abroad.
