The Virtual Student Foreign Service (VSFS), announced by Secretary Clinton at the 2009 New York University commencement speech, is part of a growing effort by the State Department to harness technology and a commitment to global service among young people to facilitate new forms of diplomatic engagement.
Over the summer, the U.S. Department of State partnered 37 U.S. diplomatic missions and associated projects with 44 current or former interns who are now students attending universities throughout the United States. The VSFS projects these diplomatic missions and students will be working on in 2009-2010 include assisting in the development of the Iraq National Museum website; helping to teach the English language and American culture through social media outreach; environmental and conservation curriculum planning; and researching and promoting gender equality.
Students who are interested in following or contributing to these and other projects can join the Virtual Student Foreign Service Facebook community.
By combining the talents of young people across America and the right technology, we can forge the solutions that our century demands.

The United States needs to start being more friendly towards countries we have turned our backs on, as we are not necessarily always right either.
China and Russia are our friends and now it is time to accept Cuba. We cannot continue to force Democracy down other countries throats and we do not like it when other countries try to do the same to us regarding their ideas of what is a better form of government.
Clearing up our reputation with other countries will make us more a friend to everyone, no matter what their ideas for a perfect government. Democracy is not perfect, as not every government as its pros and cons when it comes to its idealism. Working together as a world of nations is the answer I believe to accepting others right to their opinion and idealism.

This will be a great program. The sooner we can get our university students involved in foreign affairs and in making contacts with citizens of other countires, the sooner we can work toward mutuial respect and cooperation.
