I think the organizations like PEPFAR and such should be applauded. Things are bad in Haiti but they would have been a lot worse had PEPFAR not already been there when the earthquake struck. The U.S. government has given millions of money to Haiti, to help with controlling HIV and Aids and they should be thanked for it. Haiti received billions of pounds worth of aid in the aftermath of the huge earthquake but what annoys me is it all comes from charity organizations. I think it is about time the likes of private health insurance companies like AXA PPP Health Insurance, Bupa and Aetna should be playing a bigger role when such disasters strike. Companies who specialise in health care should be leading by example such disasters strike. I done a little digging and the AXA group and its employees donated 1.2 millions to charities that included ones helping out the Haiti aftermath, Bupa in Brighton donated £20,000 and the Aetna Foundation donated a couple of hundred thousand spread out across 6 charities. This is better than nothing but more more more would be better, dint you think.

@ Palgye,

I'm sorry I don't understand you. Who do you think should appologize to who? For what reason?

@ Anna in DC,

Good to have you back posting comment, thought maybe you got buried in a snowdrift somewhere in DC (chuckle).

What are folks there calling Congress these days, the "frozen chosen"?

I was really interested -- but not surprised -- to learn that Partners in Health is working with PEPFAR. I will never forget reading about Partners in Health in Mountains Beyond Mountains -- inspired me to believe we can all make a difference in fighting poverty. Our prayers and thoughts are with all who are working in Haiti.
