MANHATTAN, Kan. -- CIA Director Michael Hayden said Wednesday that Iranian policy, at the highest government level, is to help kill Americans in Iraq, the boldest pronouncement of Iranian involvement by a U.S. official to date.

Hayden made the statement in response to a student question while delivering the Landon Lecture at Kansas State University.

"It is my opinion, it is the policy of the Iranian government, approved to highest level of that government, to facilitate the killing of Americans in Iraq," Hayden said. "Just make sure there's clarity on that."
I think it would be possible for the Iraqi government to make the case before the UN Sec. Council that Iran's involvement in the death and displacement of Iraqi people caused by active encitement of sectarian conflict by the government of Iran to weaken the chances of a nation recovering from several decades of dictatorship, wars, sanctions, liberation, to form a more perfect union by, for, and of the people; would constitute grounds for charges to be brought upon the leadership of Iran for violations of the Convention on the Prevention of Genocide.

  1. I don't think Amb. Cris Hill gets enough credit for getting the parties to the point where this could even be considered. Cautiosly optimistc would be me.
  2. This is going to make Kenya's election look like a picnic the way things are shaping up. How it is that a leader could be allowed to bring his nation to such economic ruin in the first place, and not have been removed from power by the will of the people long before now is something to wonder at.
