I am a board member of Heshima Kenya, and am so pleased that you took the time to visit our program. Talyn Good and Anne Sweeney have been devoted to making a difference for these young girls and it is heartening that their efforts are being supported.
Many thanks,
According to reports from the UN's High Commissioners for Refugees (UNHCR) over 30,000 Angolan refugees have been expelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo (in October) in retaliation of Angola regularly expelling the illegal Congolese diamond workers from the country. This has in effect, created and ongoing mass expulsion of Congolese in Angola and Angolans from the DRC. These expulsions from both countries have been ongoing for years, but there has been a large influx. Angolans and Congolese refugees with legal paperwork are being forced to leave with no warning of their expulsion. Families are separated; belongings are looted or left behind. Many have lived as legal nationals for decades. How is the Department of State and the United Nations responding to the issues surrounding overcrowded IDP camps such as funding for the refugees, food insecurity, rape, and access to clean water? How are these refugees going to be assimilated back into societies where they no longer have the resources to sustain basic livelihood?
