I look forward to the Afghan people showing the Iranian government how an election ought to be held.

As Ambassador Holbrooke said , our investment in their future is secured in assuring that the Afghan election is free and fair, without showing preference to who wins.

But also in that having a vested interest in the process to assure its fairness in all aspects, we inherently become involved in the process by encouraging debate and good governance.

At least that's the way I interpreted his remarks in testimony before Congressional committee.

If that be "meddling" then I take those accusations to be from quarters that would rather not see the elections be free or fair.

More like we a "mentoring" the process rather than manipulating it.

Kind of like a midwife to the rebirth of a nation.
