In recent days, Brazil's northeast region has experienced devastating flooding, resulting in over 40 lives lost and 80,000 people displaced. In response, U.S. Ambassador to Brazil Thomas Shannon authorized $50,000 in disaster relief for the victims in support of Brazilian state and federal assistance efforts.
Ambassador Shannon said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with those families affected by this natural disaster. Our assistance is an act of solidarity with Brazil and the people of Alagoas and Pernambuco, undertaken with confidence that the strength and perseverance of the Nordestinos will help overcome this tragedy.”
